Upon my retirement I decided to try my hand at watercolor painting. I took a couple classes from a local/international artist located in Indianapolis and she got me started on a non-stop journey.  I have painted nearly every day since. My Dining Room has become my Art Studio.  I do animal portraits, architectural, landscapes and people.  I do commissions on request.  A form is available if you are interested in any of the paintings shown here or if you have questions or special requests.

I am so grateful to share this space with my distant but very special cousin Crystal. I love my roots in Belmont County and the Creighton Cabin is holds a special place in my heart, you may even see a painting of it here one day!

The Creighton Cabin

I’ve been working on this painting off and on for a couple months now. I’ve done a bit of research for the items I included. This is the Creighton Cabin located in Belmont County. This is my interpretation of what it might have looked like inside back in the mid 1800’s. The painting is 16x20 watercolor. The layout of the cabin had three exterior doors, one opposite the fireplace and one on each side.

In my minds eye these doors are open on a spring day so Catherine gets better light to do some spinning. I considered having a chicken wander in from outside, but I know she would have shooed it on out. I’m sure she told the dog to make sure the chickens or any other critters stayed outside. The cat? Well someone has to supervise. There are beans cooking in the pot. She’s hoping a neighbor might stop by to visit a bit because it’s lonely. She’s probably humming a hymn softly to herself.

I plan to do a painting of the exterior - after I do some more research.

North Fork Captina Creek

This watercolor painting is of the North Fork of Captina Creek. It was based on a photo posted on the Facebook page Friends of Captina Creek. It is 12x16 in a gold frame with mat.

Woodland Critters

I have enjoyed creating these little guys. I hope you enjoy them also.

Down on the Farm

I've tried to paint the animals I remember as a child on my grandparents and our farm.  I love silly, cute, interesting animals. Enjoy!

Birds of the Field

I've been blessed with many reference photos to help me capture the personality of the various birds we have all around us.

Country Living

I love landscapes and things related to country living. I like to paint; roads - they take you places, the quiet calmness of sitting by a babbling stream or still pond, or the pure joy of running full tilt through a hay field as a kid - they all take me home to a happy place.

Examples of Commissions of Our Furry Family Members

These pieces are not for sale but can give you an idea of what a commissioned piece might look like. Some were paid commissions, some were gifts to friends and family, Cliff and Norm are my kitties and Costello (who has passed) is with Gwen (my granddaughter) when she was little and liked the feel of Costello's fur on her toes.

I have included the reference photo along with the finished watercolor painting to show the likeness.

Examples of Architectural Commissions

The following paintings are not for sale but show what a painting of Grandma's old place or your childhood home might look like as a watercolor painting. Several were commissions for a realtor who gifts them to her clients. I've included the photos I worked from.
